Maua, from Tanzania

Maua is nine years old and has been going to Naitolya Primary School in Makuyuni for a year.

Her mother never had the chance to go to school and is determined that Maua gets an education. Her grandfather works in Magugu, a city quite far away, so that he can send money to the family and help to buy what is needed for school.

A project is underway in Tanzania to improve the education of girls at 60 schools in the country. It aims to help girls attend school – and stay at school long enough to finish their education.

The ‘Transforming Education for Girls Project’ is run by Maarifa ni Ufunguo in Tanzania. It is supported by ActionAid and funded by Comic Relief and the Tubney Charitable Trust.
