Liberal Democrat Party Conference 2025

This September, we had the privilege of attending the Liberal Democrats annual conference held at the Bournemouth International Centre. As a Send My Friend to School campaign champion, it was an exciting and important opportunity to raise awareness about urgent education issues and connect with party members eager to make a difference.

The conference atmosphere was focused and energetic. It brought together MPs, party members, activists, and campaigners all committed to shaping the UK’s future. Although the party covered a wide range of topics including health, environment, public services, and immigration; however It did not include many talks about global education.

Our campaign is pushing for at least 15% of the UK’s overseas aid budget to be maintained for education, following the United Nations recommendation. This is crucial in ensuring that children caught in crises still have access to learning. The Liberal Democrats share this priority as part of their wider commitment to international development and a fairer world.

During the conference, I had the chance to engage in question sessions and discuss the importance of global education funding directly with MPs including Alison Bennett, Monica Harding (the party’s development spokesperson), Tim Farron, Wendy Chamberlain, and Lord Purvis. Their passion and support were encouraging and reinforced how vital it is for campaigns like ours to continue pushing this agenda.

The party also reaffirmed in their policy discussions a commitment to restore education funding within the overseas aid budget back to 15%. Hearing this reaffirmation from key figures was motivating, and it was clear many delegates understand the impact education can have internationally.

What inspired me most were the discussions about youth empowerment and leadership projects such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which align closely with the spirit of our campaign to create opportunities for young people everywhere.

If anyone wants to be part of the Send My Friend to School campaign, you can download the free school campaign packs. You can also apply to become a campaign champion in 2026. It’s a great way to get involved and help ensure education remains a global priority.

Attending the conference has strengthened my motivation to continue advocating for global education and to work alongside people who share this commitment. I’m excited to carry forward the momentum from Bournemouth and keep pushing for change.
