Large group of school children holding up Send My Friend to School posters
St John’s pupils met MP Ivan Lewis as part of their Send My Friend to School activities.

Pupils at St John’s Primary School in Radcliffe, Manchester found a whole range of creative ways to support Send My Friend to School and support education for all.

The school council made sure that children in all classes found out all about the education issue, including a huge display in the corridor for all to see.

The children worked in action groups and organised and planned their own activities including

  • a cake sale
  • a photo cake raffle
  • making a newsletter for parents and some informative leaflets to give out at school summer events
  • a teachers’ relay race
  • making badges
  • making and giving away SMF bookmarks
  • presenting an Assembly

Pupils from St John’s School met MP Ivan Lewis at his constituency office to deliver their Go for Gold education messages

We wrote to our MP Ivan Lewis, who we then went to see in his constituency office. He wrote back to us from Parliament telling us he would speak to other ministers. The local paper came along and covered the story.

ASDA donated a cake with a photo of us campaigning on the front. We raffled it and sent some money to a school in Ladakh which needs to buy a school bus to get children to school.
