Bedwas High School launched the GCE Campaign with an assembly for all pupils in the school.
At this assembly Year 12 pupils showed the video and read some of the case studies. The assembly was followed by Peer Educators (Y12 pupils Katie-Star Cometson and Adam Bird) delivering the Lesson Plan to all pupils in Year 7 – 9 in their PSE lessons over a three-week period. Pupils completed the templates with interesting and pertinent messages and as an extension activity some pupils wrote letters to Wayne David, MP for Caerphilly.
Mr David was invited into a school assembly where he was presented with the templates and he presented his letters of reply to every pupil who wrote a letter to him.
We were fortunate to have visitors from Mudzini Kwetu in Kikambala, Kenya – a home for vulnerable girls that our school has supported for many years through the Cariad Kenya charity. Alice, the Manager of the home was able to tell our pupils about the real life situation in Kenya and how fortunate girls in Mudzini Kwetu are in having the support they receive from Bedwas. She felt that the Send my Sister to School was a wonderful campaign and congratulated the children on their efforts.
Bedwas High is in receipt of a grant from Gold Star Communities WCVA to assist Mudzini Kwetu in building a school in the village of Kikambala so that all children can benefit from education in the area.
