New MP Esther McVey was so impressed with 1GOAL messages from Hayfield School that she chose to focus on the campaign for her maiden speech in Parliament.

We are an SEN school and as a staff we know the impact that education has on our pupils’ life chances.

My class held an assembly to tell everyone about 1GOAL – Send My Friend to School. We shared the scaves, so that everyone child in the school took one home for homework with a letter explaining what we were supporting and what we were trying to achieve. We also told our partner school in Ghana who are also supporting 1 GOAL.

We wrote to our new MP, Esther McVey to tell her about 1 GOAL, as part of a literacy lesson. When Ms McVey received the letters she asked if she could come and visit everyone at Hayfield. She came to assembly and we presented her with our signatures and asked her to give them to David Cameron, to remind him of the promises made as part of the Millenium goals.

Ms McVey was so impressed by what we said at Hayfield and the children’s understanding of the impact that education can have on lives that she chose to use your campaign as a focus for her maiden speech in Parliament, last Thursday, as part of the Global Poverty Day. This was picked up by local radio and the local paper.

We hope that in some small way we have helped raise awareness of your campaign. For the pupils I know they understand the importance of education, but I hope it has also helped them to understand that they can have aspirations and they can make a difference.
